Truck Accident Leaves Online Music Pioneer Dead

The 65-year old online music pioneer, Gerald Kearby, was killed in a truck accident last August 6 after his white Ford pick-up truck veered off the road.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) officials, the accident happened at around 6:30 in the evening in Pescadero Creek Road.

Based on the initial investigation, it appears that Kearby was driving westbound when he lost control of his vehicle. Authorities said that Kearby probably tried to regain control of his vehicle but failed, causing it to travel across the eastbound lane where it came to a stop after colliding with a tree. Paramedics pronounced Kearby dead on the scene.

Further investigation confirmed that alcohol and drugs were not a factor to the crash. However, the major cause of the incident is still undetermined.

Due to the accident, the roadway was limited to one lane only for about three hours while the investigation was underway, said the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Services.

Kearby was known as a pioneer in online music.  He was a co-founder of the former Liquid Audio, now Liquid Digital Media. It was one of the first secured platforms for online music distribution. It can be remembered that Kearby once testified in Congress on digital rights issues.

Trucks are big; therefore, their tendency is to accumulate momentum much more than any other vehicle on the roadways as they gain speed. A Los Angeles injury attorney reminds truck drivers that when a truck picks up speed, it may be difficult for them to stop the huge vehicle. As a result, such vehicles become more likely to turn into a giant road monster that could cause road disasters.
